This year, the sports budget has been enhanced by Rs 723.97 crore by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. The Sports Ministry has been given a budget of Rs. 3397.32 crores for this year. This budget is up Rs 723.97 crore over the previous one. Additionally, Khelo India has been given a budget of Rs 1045 crore.

The Narendra Modi administration has unveiled the final budget of its second term. Today in Parliament, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman delivered the general budget for 2023–2024. The sports budget saw a huge hike this year of more than 700 crores. The Sports Ministry has been given a budgetary allocation of Rs 3397.32 crore by the Finance Minister. This budget is up Rs 723.97 crore over the previous one.

The Government of India has raised the sports budget this year in response to the outstanding play of Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics in 2021 and the Commonwealth Games in 2022. Seven medals in all were won by Indian athletes at the Tokyo Olympics. India won 61 medals at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games at the same time.

The national government drastically reduced the sports budget during the Corona era. The placement of the players made an impact which is quite evident. But following that, the government raised Rs 305.58 crore in the most recent general budget.

The 2020–21 sports budget was Rs. 2826.92 crore. The sports budget for 2021–22 was Rs 2596.14 crore, however, it was amended to Rs 2757.02 crore, a reduction of Rs 230.78 crore.

In the previous year, the support budget saw a rise of Rs 305.58 crore. The entire budget for sports in 2017 was $3026.60. In 2023–2024, Rs 1045 crore have been set aside for Khelo India. In contrast, the Khelo India programme saw a rise of Rs 316 crore 29 lacks in 2022–2023, bringing the total budget to Rs 974 crore.

The budget for 2020–21 included Rs. 890.42 crores. Khelo India's funding was subsequently reduced in 2021–2022 as well. The government trimmed Rs 232.71 crore this year. it was decreased to Rs. 657.71 crores. The Sports Authority of India (Sai) has obtained a budget increase of Rs 36.09 crore. This budget was raised to Rs. 749.43 crores last year, making it Rs. 785.52 crores for 2023–24. The allocation for 2021–22 was Rs. 660.41 crores, whereas that for BE 2020–21 was Rs. 500 crore.
