In the race to go viral on social media, some individuals seem to have lost all sense of responsibility and cultural sensitivity. A recent incident in Jaipur has shocked netizens, where social media influencer Lappu Sachin openly distributed beer on a public street — and that too on the holy day of Ekadashi, considered sacred in Hinduism.

A video of the act has gone viral, showing Lappu Sachin handing out beer bottles to people on a busy Jaipur road. While some bystanders appear to enjoy the bizarre “free beer party,” the majority of people online have condemned the act as deeply disrespectful and socially irresponsible.

What makes the incident even more controversial is its timing. Ekadashi is a spiritually significant day observed with fasting, devotion, and restraint. Many believe that organizing an alcohol distribution event on such a holy day is not only a mockery of religious sentiments but also an outright challenge to public decency and order.

X (formerly Twitter) user @BhawaniSinghjpr expressed strong disapproval of the video and tagged @RajPoliceHelp, demanding immediate legal action against the influencer. “Such acts should not go unpunished. People like this are crossing all limits for a few seconds of social media fame,” he wrote.

What laws may have been violated?

  • Public distribution or consumption of alcohol is illegal under local excise laws.

  • Hurting religious sentiments falls under Section 295A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

  • Creating public nuisance or disturbing order can invite action under Sections 268 and 290 of the IPC.

The public response to this incident has been swift and critical. One user wrote, “Influencers today seem to have forgotten not just their responsibilities, but also basic values of respect for religion and society.” Another added, “If authorities don’t act now, such incidents may become more frequent and normalized.”

Many social media users have called for strict and exemplary punishment to prevent similar stunts in the future. “This incident shows how the race for virality is making people forget decency, tradition, and law,” read another comment.

As public pressure mounts, all eyes are now on Rajasthan Police to see whether appropriate action will be taken against this blatant disregard for cultural and legal norms.
