More than 5 lakh expatriates reached Britain in a year

The number of migrants coming to Britain from other countries has crossed 5 lakhs. The National Statistics Office (ONS) has given this information by releasing the data from the year 2021 to June 2022. According to the ONS, there has been a significant increase in the number of people arriving from outside Europe during this period. The spokesperson of Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has issued a statement on these figures. It states that the Prime Minister is completely dedicated to reducing the number of migrants.

The relaxation given in the Covid rules has been told behind the increase in the number of migrants to a record level. It has also been revealed in the ONS figures that during this period, the maximum number of students who came to study from abroad in Britain were from India. Earlier, the number of students from China was the highest. There has been a 273 percent increase in visas granted to Indian students.

Not only students but also in the category of skilled workers, Indians are the ones who get the maximum number of visas from the UK. In one year, 56042 skilled workers from India got UK visas. At the same time, Indians were the ones who got visas in the health and care sector as well. Indians accounted for 36 percent of the total visas issued in this category. The ONS also pointed out that migrants arriving in a year did not include those who arrived by sea in small boats. Earlier in the year 2015, there was a record of maximum arrival of 3,30,000 migrants in Britain.

It was also seen in the NOS figures that the maximum number of people leaving the UK during a year were from the European Union. Migrants to the UK in the past year also include Ukrainians, Afghans and Hong Kongers. Those who have left their country due to war and harassment of China. About 1,38,000 people came to Britain from these countries.

The Brexit deal is also being considered one of the reasons for this. According to a Reuters report, after Brexit, by March 2022 only 7000 jobs from the finance sector have shifted from London to other European countries. According to another estimate, 440 finance companies have also left the UK.

The issue of migrants in Britain is very old. Before Brexit, Labor Prime Minister David Cameron promised to reduce the number of migrants. According to the promise, the number of immigrants coming to England in a year was to be less than one lakh.
