Syria: Fierce firing on a bus carrying Syrian soldiers, 20 people died in the attack; many injured

The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said 23 Syrian soldiers were killed and 10 wounded in an attack on a desert road near the eastern city of Mayadin in Deir al-Zour province, which borders Iraq. Another activist group covering news in eastern Syria said 20 soldiers were killed and others wounded in the attack.
There was no immediate comment from the Syrian army or government on the strike. IS controls large parts of Syria and Iraq, where it declared a caliphate in June 2014? Over the years they lost ground and were defeated in Iraq in 2017 and in Syria two years later.
