Officials gave the information that the Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO) unit has successfully conducted field trials of a compact software-defined radio (SDR) and a major communication system.  This has strengthened the organization's commitment to developing indigenous and mission-critical communication solutions for national security. Electronics Application Laboratory (DEAL), Dehradun, has conducted this test in the Joshimath area of Uttarakhand.

DRDO said on Tuesday that these tests were carried out in close coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and other agencies. Officers from paramilitary units like ITBP, SSB, BSF, Assam Rifles, IB, NSG, CRPF, CISF also participated in it.

The aim of the tests was to test the actual performance capability of these systems in different terrains and operational conditions. It also included confirmation of key parameters in line with Qualification Requirements (QRs) and Technical Documents (TDS).

According to the DRDO website, SDR is a secure indigenous communication system capable of digital voice/data communication. It can operate in multiple bands for naval and tactical uses. At the same time, the CTCS system is a terrestrial backhaul communication system developed by DEAL, which ensures high data rate connectivity at remote locations. It is useful in areas where civilian communication networks are not available.
