With the safety and health of school-going children in mind in the wake of the cold wave prevailing in the state, the School Education Department has issued necessary directions. Under the powers vested in the District Collector, a holiday of four to five days has been declared for children up to Class VIII in some districts of the state. The reason for the holiday is the extreme cold and the prevailing wave.

The School Education Department has clarified that if the intensity of the Cold Wave conditions is not relaxed after the holiday period, special arrangements will also be made in schools. In the event of a Cold Wave, the necessary arrangements will be made to keep the classrooms warm in schools to alleviate the students from the Cold Wave conditions. The use of heaters or other safe means will be considered for this purpose.

In addition, instructions have been given to repair school doors and windows to prevent cold air from directly entering classrooms. The department believes that proper construction and repair of buildings can significantly reduce the impact of cold on children.

Efforts will also be made to provide blankets to needy students with the help of voluntary organizations and social institutions to protect them from the cold. In view of the possibility of children falling ill due to the cold wave, instructions have been given to provide adequate first aid boxes in schools.
