BCCI and ECB united to stop Saudi T20 League, also made this request to ICC
BCCI and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have decided to withdraw from the Saudi T20 League. Both the boards have decided not to support this project. This league is said to be worth $ 400 million (about Rs 3442 crore). Cricket Australia has shown interest in investing.
Both the BCCI and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have decided to pull out of the Saudi T20 League. Both the boards have made up their minds not to sponsor the project. The boards of the two countries have also formed a coalition to abandon the Saudi T20 League. It is being reported that a total investment of $ 400 million (approximately Rs 3442 crore) is set to be made within the Saudi T20 League.
Both the boards have assured that they won't issue NOCs for their players registering for the new tournament. And they'll influence the International Cricket Council (ICC) also to put the brakes on their support. The reason for it is the busy cricket calendar. They think that their calendar will be affected due to the new league.
News agency PTI quoted The Guardian report as saying that during the World Test Championship (WTC) final played at Lord's this month, the ECB and BCCI united in opposition to the new league. Both the boards agreed that they would not issue NOCs to their players to join the new competition, so that their national schedule would not be weakened.
On the other hand, Cricket Australia seemed keen to partner with Saudi investors for the T20 league. According to a PTI report, Saudi Arabia's SRJ Sports Investments has promised to invest $400 million to set up the new league. In this, eight teams will play four tournaments at different venues every year, which is being compared to the Grand Slam of tennis.
