Iceland Cricket’s Sarcastic Tweet Goes Viral Amid India-Bangladesh Tensions
Mustafizur Rahman Controversy: Iceland Cricket has now taken a dig at the ongoing World Cup controversy between India and Bangladesh with a humorous tweet. Iceland Cricket tweeted that their team could replace Bangladesh in this World Cup and that they have no security concerns.
The last few days have been very tough for the cricketing communities of both India and Bangladesh. In the wake of the growing brutality against the Hindus in Bangladesh, there have been massive protests in India against the selection of a cricketer from Bangladesh in the Indian Premier League. Mustafizur Rahman was bought by the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹9.20 Crores for the IPL 2026. Acting on it, the Board of Control for Cricket in India has asked the KKR to release Mustafizur Rahman. Subsequently, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) also decided not to schedule any matches for the World Cup against the Indian cricket board due to security concerns. The cricket board of Iceland has recently tweeted at the cricket board of Bangladesh.
Iceland Cricket, taking a dig at the India-Bangladesh dispute, tweeted on the social media platform 'X', stating that it could replace Bangladesh in the World Cup. The tweet jokingly stated, "Before anyone asks, yes, Iceland can take the Bangladeshi place in the upcoming T20 World Cup, and, no, we do not have any security and well-being concerns. Our players might, but we do not."
The auction for the 19th edition of the IPL was held in Abu Dhabi on December 16, where KKR purchased Mustafizur for ₹9.20 crore (approximately $1.5 million). Recent reports of atrocities and killings against the Hindu minority in Bangladesh had sparked widespread protests against Mustafizur in India. Given the gravity of the situation, the BCCI directed the franchises to release the Bangladeshi players. Subsequently, the BCB also refused to play the T20 World Cup matches in India, citing security concerns. The BCB also banned the streaming of the IPL.
