Shreyas Iyer Makes Comeback After Injury, Named in India’s ODI Squad vs New Zealand
Shreyas Iyar, Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26: Shreyas Iyer has received clearance from the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru to play with certain conditions. Iyer spent 10 days at the COE for the final phase of his rehabilitation.
The Indian squad has been declared for the three-match ODI series against New Zealand. Vice-captain Shreyas Iyer has been included in the team. Now, he shall also be playing in the match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025-26. The player had suffered a spleen injury while fielding during the tour of Australia. He shall be playing against Himachal Pradesh at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, scheduled on January 6.
According to ESPNcricinfo, Shreyas Iyer has been cleared to play by the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru, subject to certain conditions. Iyer spent 10 days at the COE for the final phase of his rehabilitation. As part of the return-to-play protocol, Iyer also played a practice match on January 2nd. He did not experience any discomfort during this practice match.
Iyer has done exceptionally well in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. He has scored 114 runs off 50 balls against Karnataka in 2024. Iyer has been performing exceptionally well in the number one ODI tournament. He was the highest run-getter for Mumbai in the recently concluded season. He scored 325 runs in five matches.

Iyer suffered a serious injury during India's third ODI against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground on October 25, 2025. While attempting a catch near the third-man boundary, Iyer lost his balance and fell on his ribs. This resulted in a serious spleen injury and internal bleeding. Iyer has been out of action since then.
