ICC U-19 World Cup 2026: Five teams eliminated, semifinal race heats up

Five teams have been eliminated in the Super Six stage of the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2026, and the competition for the semi-finals has begun with seven teams, with England, India, Australia, and Afghanistan leading the competition. Australia is currently at the top of Super Six Group 1, whereas Afghanistan is second, and Sri Lanka is third.

In Super Six Group 2, England is currently occupying the first position, and India is in the second position. But if India wins this match against Zimbabwe, India will go to the top. Pakistan is also in the running in the semifinals from this group, and Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Zimbabwe are already eliminated.

Let's explore how the Indian team will reach the semi-finals. The Indian team secured a spot in the Super Sixes by defeating the United States of America, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe, and New Zealand, and finished first in their group. Therefore, they will now face the second- and third-placed teams in Group C.

The Indian team can advance directly to the semi-finals by winning both matches. However, they can also secure a semi-final spot by defeating Zimbabwe alone, but their net run rate must be better than Pakistan's. Now, let's understand the format of the Under-19 World Cup and how the Super Sixes stage determines the semi-finals.

Sixteen teams are participating in the ICC Men's Under-19 World Cup, divided into four groups. The top three teams from each group advance to the Super Sixes stage. In the Super Sixes stage, the top three teams from Groups A and D are grouped into one group, while the top three teams from Groups B and C are grouped into another group.

Each team carries forward its points, wins, and net run rate against other teams that qualify for the Super Sixes and then plays two matches in the Super Sixes stage against opponents from their respective groups who finished in different group stage positions.

This means that if a team finished first in the group stage, it will play against the second and third placed teams from the other group. This means that Team A1 will play only against D2 and D3 in the Super Sixes. Similarly, Team A2 will play only against D1 and D3. In the Super Sixes stage, the top two teams from each group will qualify for the semi-finals.
