Team India has decided to change its playing XI for the second Super 8 match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026. Sanju Samson and Axar Patel have been included in the playing XI, while Sundar and Rinku Singh have been excluded. The captain of the Zimbabwe team, Sikandar Raza, has won the toss and decided to bowl first in the match being played at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The opening pair of India has not performed well in this tournament so far, with the highest opening partnership being only 25 runs. This match is very crucial for India to enter the semi-finals.
After the toss, Suryakumar Yadav expressed his happiness over Sikandar Raza's decision. He said, "We wanted to bat first. The team is fully prepared, and the atmosphere in the dressing room is very relaxed and positive." Suryakumar Yadav further stated that the team will play this match in the same style as it has throughout the year—fearless and fearless. He added that two changes have been made to the playing XI. Axar Patel and Sanju Samson have returned to the team, while Washington Sundar and Rinku Singh have been left out.
It is crucial for Team India to win this match, as to reach the semi-finals, the Indian team will have to win both of its next matches. Only if Team India wins against Zimbabwe will their hopes of advancing to the West Indies remain alive. Both teams suffered defeats in the first Super 8 match. While South Africa defeated India, West Indies defeated Zimbabwe by 107 runs. Currently, both teams are in the bottom two positions in Group 1.
