A wave of euphoria has swept across the nation since the Indian women's cricket team won the World Cup for the first time. The history makers received prize money of nearly Rs 43 crore from the ICC. Now, the Board of Control for Cricket in India too has opened its coffers for women's rights. The BCCI on Sunday night announced a record Rs 51 crore award to the team that won the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 in Navi Mumbai. This is the largest single award in Indian women's sports history, which will be divided among players, coaches, and support staff.
BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia told ANI that this victory will change the landscape of Indian cricket. He said that Kapil Dev ushered in a new era and encouragement in cricket by leading India to the World Cup in 1983. Today, women have shown the same enthusiasm and motivation. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have not only won the trophy today; they have also won the hearts of all Indians.
He further stated that this victory will inspire the next generation of women cricketers. Saikia said that Jay Shah, who took charge of the BCCI, has brought about many changes in women's cricket. Pay parity has been addressed. Last month, ICC President Jay Shah increased women's prize money by 300 percent. These steps have significantly boosted women's cricket.
