Sri Lanka vs Australia Update: Despite a brilliant performance from their openers, Australia was all out in a must-win match in Pallekele. They lost 10 wickets for 78 runs.
In the 30th match of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, Australia set a target of 182 runs for Sri Lanka. Australia was all out in 20 overs. Seven batsmen did not score double figures. This occurred despite both openers scoring blistering half-centuries. Due to the aggressive batting of Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head, Australia reached 100 runs in just 9 overs. However, Australia lost 10 wickets for 78 runs. Dushan Hemantha picked three wickets for Sri Lanka. Dushmantha Chameera picked two wickets.
Sri Lanka won the toss and decided to bowl first, but the pitch seemed to favor the bowlers in the initial overs, and despite that, Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head gave a quick start. Travis Head was dismissed on the third ball of the ninth over, having scored 56 runs off 29 balls, including seven fours and three sixes. With this wicket, Australia's innings collapsed like a pack of cards. Cameron Green was dismissed in the next over, while Mitchell Marsh also returned to the pavilion in the 11th over. Marsh scored 54 runs off 27 balls, including eight fours and two sixes.
Following this, were Tim David in the 13th over, Glenn Maxwell in the 17th over, Josh Inglis in the 18th over, Cooper Connolly in the 19th over, and three more wickets in the 20th over. Marcus Stoinis, Xavier Bartlett, and Adam Zampa were dismissed in the final over. Australia were all out in 20 overs.
For Sri Lanka, Dushan Hemantha took 3 wickets for 37 runs in 4 overs, while Maheesh Theekshana took one wicket. Dushmantha Chameera also took 2 wickets for 36 runs in 4 overs. Dunith Welalage and Kamindu Mendis also took one wicket each. This match will be crucial for Australia to win to reach the Super 8s.
