High Court insists on increasing the time of last train of Kolkata Metro, know why
Kolkata Metro: The Kolkata High Court has directed the Kolkata Metro Railway Authority to consider a public interest litigation (PIL).
The Kolkata High Court has directed the Kolkata Metro Railway Authority to consider a Public Interest Litigation (PIL). In which there was a demand to increase the time of the last train by about 45 minutes.
The petitioner's counsel said that the last metro train running on the popular North-South route in Kolkata leaves at 9.40 pm from Dum Dum in the north and Kavi Subhash station in the south.
The attorney further asserted that the final train in practically every other metro rail service in the nation departs the starting station at approximately 11:00 p.m. In the best interests of passengers, the petitioner requested that the Kolkata Metro Railway's final train depart from its current time by 45 to 50 minutes.
Chief Justice TS Shivaganan's division bench ordered the Kolkata Metro Authority on Thursday to review the petitioner's arguments and determine whether the request is feasible.
After reviewing the representation, the bench, which also included Justice Hiranmoy Bhattacharya, ordered the metro authority to respond to the petitioner with its decision within four weeks of receiving this order.
The court said it was aware that the decision to schedule trains rests entirely with the railway authority. And he doesn't have the expertise to go over the technical aspects. Saying that it was a very good suggestion, the Chief Justice said that it would help the passengers.
