Jailed former Prime Minister of Thailand Thaksin Shinawatra has been admitted to a police hospital after complaining of chest pain, hypertension, and lack of oxygen. Shinawatra was jailed on his return to Thailand after a court appearance on Tuesday, the Bangkok Post reported.

A doctor at the hospital reviewed Thaksin's symptoms and considered his medical treatment records from hospitals overseas. The doctor diagnosed several diseases of Thaksin. According to the Bangkok Post, the doctor decided to transfer Thaksin to the Police General Hospital due to the lack of some medical equipment in the prison's hospital.

The Police General Hospital said in a statement on Wednesday that a corrections doctor examined Thaksin's symptoms and found that his illness required immediate treatment. Thaksin fled Thailand in 2008, the Bangkok Post reported. He helped his then-wife, Khunying Potjaman na Pombejara, buy concessional land in the Ratchadaphisek area while he was prime minister.
