England's highest total ever in ODI cricket history, missed 500 by 2 runs

England set a world record by scoring the highest score in history in the first ODI of the series against the Netherlands. England have missed out by 2 runs to become the first team in the world to cross the 500-run mark in ODI cricket.

England's batsmen set a new world record for the highest score in ODIs while batting against the Netherlands.

England set a world record by scoring the highest score in history in the first ODI of the series against the Netherlands. England have missed out by 2 runs to become the first team in the world to cross the 500-run mark in ODI cricket. 

After winning the toss of the Netherlands, the decision to bowl first was overshadowed and the players of England, batting brilliantly, scored 498 runs for 4 wickets in 50 overs. For England, three batsmen Phil Salt (122), David Malan (125), and Jos Buttler (162 *) scored scintillating centuries. At the same time, Liam Livingstone played an unbeaten innings of 66 runs in 22 balls. Earlier, the world record for the highest score in an innings in ODI cricket was also recorded in the name of England. England scored 481/6 in 50 overs against Australia in Nottingham in 2018. 

By breaking this record, England's team missed out on becoming the first team to score 500 runs. Fours and sixes rained heavily in this match. England broke its three-year-old record for most sixes in an innings of an ODI match. England's batsmen hit a total of 26 sixes on Friday. Out of which 14 sixes came from Butler's bat. At the same time, 3-3 sixes came off the bat of Phil Salt and David Malan. Liam Livingstone hit 6 sixes in his scintillating half-century. Earlier in the year 2019, England had hit 25 sixes in the match against Afghanistan. 

Jos Buttler continued his stellar IPL form with his first 47-ball century against the Netherlands to become the second-fastest player to cross the 150-run mark in 65 balls. AB de Villiers holds the record for the fastest the world record for the highest score in an innings in ODI cricket was also recorded in the name of England.
