CBI action against corruption, IRS officer arrested while taking bribe of Rs 45 lakh
CBI Arrest: CBI arrested Additional Director General of the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services Amit Kumar Singhal while taking a bribe of Rs 25 lakh. Singhal, a 2007 batch IRS officer, had demanded a bribe of Rs 45 lakh to end the income tax investigation. The first installment was to be given at his house in Mohali where Harsh Kotak was arrested.

CBI has caught Additional Director General Amit Kumar Singhal, who is posted in the Directorate General of Taxpayer Services, red-handed accepting a bribe of Rs 25 lakh. Singhal is an officer from the 2007 batch of the IRS. After his arrest, the offices connected with Singhal in Delhi, Mumbai, and Punjab were raided by the CBI.
The official sources of CBI said that Amit Kumar Singhal asked a bribe of Rs 45 lakh from an income tax payer to settle the income tax inquiry. Of which Rs 25 lakh had to be paid as an initial installment.
On getting these inputs, a plan to arrest Singhal red-handed was drawn up by the CBI. Singhal's residence is located in Mohali, where Rs 25 lakh had to be paid. Instead of Singhal, a person named Harsh Kotak took Rs 25 lakh at his house.
CBI arrested Harsh Singhal along with the money, and along with this, Singhal was also arrested from his residence in Vasat Kunj, Delhi. According to CBI, Singhal had not only demanded a bribe for giving a favorable decision in the income tax case.
He had also threatened heavy penalties and legal action in case of not giving the bribe. Not only this, Singhal had also threatened to implicate the taxpayer in other cases in the future.
