Walnuts are known to be superfoods because they are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, antioxidants, fiber, proteins, and various vitamins and minerals. Walnuts improve the functioning of the brain, the strength of the heart, and the brightness of the skin.

However, not all foods are good for all people. There are foods that can be dangerous for certain people and affect their health negatively. We should know who should not eat walnuts.

  • People with nut allergies: For individuals suffering from nut allergies, walnuts can be very harmful to them. Consuming walnuts can increase the risk of having itching, rashes, a swollen throat, breathing difficulties, and even anaphylaxis.
  • Persons with digestion issues: Walnuts have lots of fiber, but overconsumption leads to constipation, diarrhea, bloating, pain in the stomach, and gas. People with irritable bowel syndrome or pre-existing digestive problems should consume them in very limited quantities.
  • People with bleeding disorders: Omega-3 fatty acids thin the blood. People with blood-clotting problems or bleeding disorders should avoid walnuts, as they can increase the risk of bleeding.
  • Surgery: Individuals scheduled to undergo surgery should avoid eating walnuts at least two weeks before the surgery. Walnuts act as a blood thinner and may cause increased bleeding and complications in surgery.
  • People trying to lose weight: Walnuts contain a lot of healthy fat; however, they have a lot of calories too. This means that if you are following a weight loss diet and eating walnuts carelessly, you might encounter the problem of weight gain.
  • People with kidney stones: The presence of oxalates in walnuts can trigger people with pre-existing conditions of kidney stones not to eat walnuts.
  • Diabetics: Even though walnuts control sugar in the body, excessive intake of walnuts will hamper sugar in the bloodstream and make one put on weight.

Walnuts are beneficial, but they can also be harmful for some people. Those with allergies, digestive problems, bleeding disorders, kidney stones, or undergoing surgery should be cautious.
