United States Department of State Data Shows Big Gap in US Visa Wait Times Across Indian Cities
Wait times for US visa applicants in India vary significantly by city. In Chennai, the wait for a B1/B2 visa is one month, while in Mumbai it is approximately 10 months. New Delhi and Hyderabad also have wait times of approximately eight months. Waiting periods for student and work visa categories are shorter, giving applicants the option to apply in other cities for faster visa processing.

This is indeed good news for US visa seekers from India. As per the statistics given out by the United States Department of State on the 13th of February, 2006, the wait for a US visa interview in India is quite variable from city to city.
According to the data, the wait for a B1/B2 (tourist and business) visa interview in Chennai is just one month, while in Mumbai, the same wait has reached approximately 10 months. New Delhi and Hyderabad are not far behind Mumbai. In both cities, the wait time for a B1/B2 visa is approximately eight months.
According to the US Department of State's Global Visa Wait Times portal, Mumbai has an average wait of 9.5 months, while the next available B1/B2 interview date is approximately 10 months away. This makes Mumbai the city with the highest backlog.
