This is indeed good news for US visa seekers from India. As per the statistics given out by the United States Department of State on the 13th of February, 2006, the wait for a US visa interview in India is quite variable from city to city.

According to the data, the wait for a B1/B2 (tourist and business) visa interview in Chennai is just one month, while in Mumbai, the same wait has reached approximately 10 months. New Delhi and Hyderabad are not far behind Mumbai. In both cities, the wait time for a B1/B2 visa is approximately eight months.

While in New Delhi, the average wait time is 6.5 months, while the next available appointment is about eight months from now. This shows that, in case one needs a visa quickly, they can consider another city.
