New Delhi. Telecom operator Vodafone Idea Ltd said the industry needs to increase mobile tariffs at regular intervals. The company says the tariffs are still very low and the hike will help it get fair returns and invest in the future. The Aditya Birla Group and Vodafone Group joint venture said the revenue per user is lower than historical trends. The company got a new lease of life after the government gave a relief package to the sector last year.

All three private telecom operators - Reliance Jio, Bharti Airtel, and Vodafone-Idea Limited (VIL) - have increased charges for data in the last year. The average revenue per user (ARPU) of these companies has also increased. In its latest annual report, VIL said, "The industry continues to operate at unsurprisingly low tariffs."

The company further said, "India continues to have the lowest tariffs globally, while India is among the highest data usage (per subscriber) countries in the world due to unlimited data packs." “Thus the company believes that the industry will have to increase tariffs at regular intervals, which is essential for the operators to get a fair return on their capital and to support future investments including new technologies.” As of March 31, 2022, there were 24.38 million subscribers, of which 11.81 million were 4G users.
