Rajamouli's directorial venture RRR has collected around 1200 crores worldwide. With this, the period action film is the second highest-grossing Indian film of the year after Yash and Prashanth Neel's KGF Chapter 2. The film was released in Japan's theatres on October 21 and is also struggling to earn there.
Ram Charan and Jr NTR starrer this film released in the theatres of Japan on 21 October. The film earned around 4 crores 7 lakhs in the first week as well. With this, the film has also entered the top 10 charts at the Japanese box office. 9 Elsewhere includes local movies.
According to a report in Variety, the 1995 Rajinikanth starrer Muthu was the highest-grossing first Indian film in Japan, collecting 2.230 million at the Japanese box office by 1998. This list also includes SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, which earned around 16.73 million at the Japanese box office.
According to the report, it is also speculated that the film may cross the lifetime collection of other Indian films. The list of other films includes Aamir Khan's 3 Idiots, which collected 9 crores at the Japanese box office. At the same time, Akshay Kumar's Padman 5 crore, Aamir Khan's Dangal 4 crore 40 lakh and Rajamouli's Bahubali: The Beginning collected 4 crores 10 lakh at the Japanese box office.
Rajamouli's directorial film RRR was released in India on 24 March. Apart from Ram Charan and Jr NTR, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgan also appeared in the lead roles in this film. Made on a budget of 550 crores, this film did a business of 902 crores in India.
