Shreyas Iyer out of New Zealand ODI series: Back injury, will rehab in NCA

Team India's middle order batsman Shreyas Iyer has been ruled out of the 3-match ODI series against New Zealand. He will not be able to play in the ODI series due to a back injury. In his place, BCCI has selected Rajat Patidar of Madhya Pradesh for the team. India has to play the first ODI against New Zealand in Hyderabad on Wednesday.
Shreyas Iyer was recently part of the ODI series against Sri Lanka. In the 3 ODIs of the series, he scored 94 runs at an average of 31.33. Injured Iyer has reached the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for treatment and to regain fitness. NCA takes care of the health and fitness of India's domestic and international cricketers.
Rajat Patidar, a resident of Indore, plays domestic cricket from Madhya Pradesh. Virat Kohli's team in IPL is part of Royal Challengers Bangalore. He was also made a part of the ODI team in November 2022 against Bangladesh, but could not get a chance to debut. Now after Iyer's injury, he has been included in the team again.
In 51 matches of List-A cricket, he has scored 1648 runs at an average of 34.33. During this, 11 Fifty and 3 Centuries came from his bat. Playing for RCB in IPL, he won the team by scoring a century in the last season's eliminator match.
Team India has to play 3 ODIs against New Zealand on 18, 21 and 24 January. After the ODI series, the T20 series will also start on January 27. After the second T20 on January 29, the third T20 International match will be played on February 1. Shreyas is not a part of India's T20 squad against New Zealand.
Shreyas Iyer is also a part of Team India for the first 2 Tests against Australia. Keeping his fitness in mind, the BCCI kept him out of the ODI series. India has to play the first Test match against Australia on 9 February in Nagpur. He will join the team after getting fully fit in NCA. Iyer has been performing well for India in the Test and ODI formats for some time now. In 2022, he scored the highest number of 724 ODI runs for India.
