India’s First Multi-Lane Free-Flow Tolling System to Debut at Gujarat’s Choryasi Plaza
The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), in collaboration with ICICI Bank, has introduced the Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) tolling system to eliminate queues at toll plazas. The first MLFF tolling system will be implemented at Choryasi toll plaza in Gujarat. There is a plan to implement this system at 25 national highway toll plazas by the financial year 2026.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has taken a big step towards eliminating long queues at toll plazas in the country. A historic agreement has been signed between Indian Highways Management Company Limited (IHMCL) and ICICI Bank. Under this agreement, India's first Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) tolling system will be implemented at Choryasi toll plaza (NH 48) in Gujarat.
According to ANI report, the agreement was signed at NHAI headquarters (New Delhi) in the presence of NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav and senior officials of ICICI Bank. Choryasi Toll Plaza (Gujarat) will be the first toll plaza in the country where tolls will be collected without stopping. Along with this, there is a plan to implement this system at Gharaunda Toll Plaza (NH 44) in Haryana.
NHAI has announced that this system will be implemented at about 25 national highway toll plazas during the financial year 2026 (FY26). Suitable toll plazas are being identified for this. According to NHAI Chairman Santosh Kumar Yadav, this agreement will prove to be a milestone in the modernization of tolling in the country. It will not only increase transparency and efficiency, but will also make the toll experience easy and convenient for the passengers.
The Multi-Lane Free-Flow (MLFF) Tolling System is a state-of-the-art solution in which vehicles will not need to stop at the toll plaza. In this, FASTag and vehicle registration number (VRN) will be scanned through RFID readers and ANPR cameras (Automatic Number Plate Recognition). Through this, the toll fee will be deducted automatically, and the vehicle will be able to pass straight through without stopping. This system will reduce the problem of jams, save time, reduce fuel consumption, and also reduce pollution. The government believes that this system will not only provide relief to the passengers but will also make toll collection more transparent and effective.
