Hyderabad's INCOIS gets Bose Disaster Management Award, will get cash prize of Rs 51 lakh
Bose Disaster Management Award: INCOIS was established in Hyderabad in 1999. It is an integral part of the disaster management strategy. It established the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Center which provides tsunami alerts within 10 minutes.

Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) has been selected for the Subhash Chandra Bose Disaster Management Award 2025 for outstanding work in disaster management. An official statement by the Union Home Ministry said that an award for an institution consists of a cash amount of Rs 51 lakh and a certificate, and for an individual, it is given as Rs five lakh with a certificate. The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi instituted this award annually to recognize the invaluable contribution and service rendered by individuals and organizations in India in the field of disaster management.
This award is announced every year on 23 January on the birth anniversary of Subhash Chandra Bose. Nominations for the 2025 award were invited from the 1st of July 2024. A total of 297 nominations were received from institutions and individuals. The INCOIS was established in Hyderabad in the year 1999. It is an integral part of the disaster management strategy. It initiated the Indian Tsunami Early Warning Centre which issues tsunami warnings within 10 minutes. It is serving 28 Indian Ocean countries, which include India.
It has been recognized as the top tsunami service provider by UNESCO. INCOIS assisted cyclones Phailin in 2013 and Hudhud in 2014. This led to the timely evacuation of people and reduced risk to coastal populations. INCOIS has developed the Search and Rescue Aid Apparatus (SARAT) to assist the Indian Coast Guard, Navy, and Coastal Security Police in locating persons or objects lost at sea. INCOIS was awarded the Geospatial World Excellence Award in Maritime Services in 2024 and the Disaster Risk Reduction Excellence Award in 2021.
