Amid the industry's constant new product introductions, Honda, the nation's second-largest two-wheeler manufacturer, intends to join the two-wheeler electric vehicle market. To improve its production capabilities and embrace electric mobility solutions, the Japanese auto major has set out on a strategic journey.

Honda is developing two electric scooters for India at the moment, and the batteries and electric motors will be produced there. We would like to inform you that swappable and fixed battery systems are being evaluated.

Two new production lines have been added by Honda to its facilities in Gujarat and Karnataka, increasing its production capacity. The company aims to cater to the increasing market demand for electric vehicles and two-wheelers with internal combustion engines. Honda's first electric scooter is expected to go into production at the Karnataka plant by December 2024.

With a keen focus on market expansion and growth, Honda is targeting a double-digit growth rate of over 15 per cent in FY 2024-25. The brand's entry into the electric vehicle segment will be through a zero-emission scooter based on the Activa and the EV is codenamed K4BA. The commissioning of the third production line at the Gujarat factory is expected to yield additional quantities of about 6.6 lakh units.

A dedicated manufacturing line for electric vehicles is planned to start in this financial year, the production of which is expected to start in the second half of this financial year. Aligned with the market recovery, Honda aims to post volumes of over 5.75 million units in FY 2024-25, which is projected to come close to its previous record of 5.9 million units in FY 2018-19.

The report further adds that Honda will look to enter the growing electric two-wheeler sector in India in the second half of this financial year courtesy of the Activa-based EV and it will also bring new products and updates in other segments. Recently Honda introduced the Shine 100, which was well received by the customers and many new motorcycles are in the pipeline.
