Harassing and insulting the husband in public is extreme cruelty, High Court said - becomes a ground for divorce

The Delhi High Court, while hearing a petition, said that publicly humiliating a person in his office with false allegations and labelling him a "womanizer" is an act of extreme cruelty towards him. The High Court gave this decision while upholding the divorce granted to a married couple, terming such actions of the wife as grounds for extreme cruelty. As Live Law reports, a division bench of Justice Suresh Kumar Kait and Justice Neena Bansal Krishna stressed the importance of trust, faith and respect as the fundamental pillars of marriage.

The division bench, hearing the case, said that no person should be expected to tolerate such dishonorable conduct from his spouse, let alone act as a protector of his image and reputation in times of need. The Court said that reckless, defamatory, insulting and baseless allegations made by one spouse tarnished the image of the other and amounted to an act of extreme cruelty.

The Court observed that unfortunately there is a case where the husband is being publicly harassed, humiliated and verbally attacked by his wife who makes allegations of infidelity in front of all his office staff/guests during his office meetings. Had to put. The court was told that he also started harassing the female employees of his office and was branded a feminist in the office. This behaviour is an act of extreme cruelty towards the husband.

The high court made this observation while dismissing the wife's plea against the family court order which had granted divorce on the grounds of cruelty in an appeal filed by the husband. The couple got married six months ago. The court said that any successful marriage is based on mutual respect and trust. If any one level is compromised, the end of the relationship is certain because no relationship can survive on half truth, half lies, half respect and half trust.
