Apple Axes Mac Pro, Signals Shift in High-End Desktop Strategy
For years, starting in 2006, users who needed tremendous power used Apple's Mac Pro. Then came the Mac Studio, designed for creative users who needed a lot of power. And now, the Mac Studio is perhaps the only pro-level desktop option left for Apple fans, as the company has just discontinued the Mac Pro.
Apple has rolled out several new gadgets this month. These include the M5 chip-based 15-inch MacBook Air 2026, the M5 Max chip-based MacBook Pro 2026, and a new entry-level device, MacBook Neo, powered by the A18 Pro chipset. Apple has rolled out updates for its line of laptops. At the same time, it has discontinued several Mac models, including the M4 chip-based MacBook Air, in March 2026. Apple has now removed its Mac Pro from its website in all countries, including India, indicating that sales of this flagship device, powered by the M2 Ultra chip, are over. An update for this device was due for almost three years. It is not known whether Apple will roll out a new model of this device.
The tech giant has updated the Apple India and US websites and removed the Mac Pro (2023) from its online store. Thus, the company has officially discontinued sales of this desktop, which runs on the Apple Silicon M2 Ultra processor. Now, only the new iMac, Mac Mini, and Mac Studio, powered by chipsets up to M4, M4 Pro, and M4 Max, are available for sale in the 'Desktops' section of Apple's online store.
In a statement to 9to5Mac, the company confirmed that it is discontinuing the Mac Pro lineup. Apple does not plan to launch any new Mac Pro models in the future. The Mac Pro (2023) joins the list of devices that were discontinued in March; this list also includes Apple's Pro Display XDR, which has now been replaced by the new Studio Display XDR as Apple's flagship panel.

The Mac Pro (2023) has been discontinued nearly three years after Apple launched it during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2023 in June 2023. Powered by the Apple Silicon M2 Ultra processor, this desktop was launched in India at a price of ₹729,900 for the tower enclosure and ₹779,900 for the rack enclosure. Additionally, Apple switched from Intel-based processors to its own chipsets for the Mac Pro series.
The Mac Pro (2023) was introduced with a 24-core CPU and up to a 76-core GPU. It offered twice the memory and SSD read and write speeds compared to its previous Intel-powered model. It was configurable with up to 192GB of RAM, offering approximately 800GBps of bandwidth. It also allowed desktop users to connect up to six Pro Display XDR units to the device. Connectivity options included Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3.
