In the fifth and deciding T20I match played at Hagley Oval in Christchurch, South Africa beat New Zealand by 33 runs to win the five-match series 3-2. This is the Proteas’ first T20I series victory in New Zealand, a historic feat for the team. The fact that they came back to win the series after being 2-1 down also highlights their mental strength.

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl first; however, the South African batsmen did well against the Kiwi bowlers. Wiaan Mulder scored 31 runs for his team, while Rubin van Heerden (Rubin Herman) scored 39 runs for his team. The standout player for South Africa was Connor Esterhuizen, who remained unbeaten on 75 off 33 with 5 fours and 6 sixes. Due to Esterhuizen's powerful batting performance, South Africa posted a strong total of 187 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Chasing the target of 188 runs, New Zealand got off to a shaky start. Wiaan Mulder and Otneel Bartman dismissed Keiton Clark and Dane Cleaver cheaply in the power play. New Zealand's middle order was broken by spinner Prenelan Subrayen, who kept the run rate in check in the middle overs, conceding 22 runs in his four overs at an economy rate of just 5.50. Captain Keshav Maharaj took one wicket.

Bevan Jacobs fought back with a 36-run knock, but received no support from the other end. Gerald Coetzee dismissed Josh Clarkson and Cole McConchie in the 19th over, ending New Zealand's hopes completely. The Black Caps could only manage 154 for eight, losing both the match and the series.

Conor Esterhuizen, who made a significant impact with his batting in the series, was awarded both Man of the Match and Man of the Series. The 24-year-old wicketkeeper-batsman, who scored 125 runs in four innings, proved he is a major hope for South Africa's future.

New Zealand played without top players like Mitchell Santner, Devon Conway, Lockie Ferguson and Tom Latham in this series, yet managed to take the series to the final match.
