The parent company of Facebook, Meta, is making a shift in job titles within its Reality Labs division. Employees are being called “AI Builders,” and teams are being broken down into smaller groups focused on artificial intelligence. This is a shift within the company toward artificial intelligence development. According to a memo obtained by Business Insider, these changes apply to a group of 1,000 employees and introduce new titles, including AI Builder, AI Pod Lead, and AI Org Lead.

According to Business Insider, the memo states, "Our ultimate goal is to drive a major transformation in engineering productivity and product quality. To achieve this, we are fundamentally restructuring our workflow, our structure, and our support for each other."

Mark Zuckerberg is making major changes to the company to simplify workflows and incorporate AI (artificial intelligence) into every task. Earlier this year, Zuckerberg stated that 2026 would be the year when AI would "start dramatically changing the way we work," and he also stated that projects that previously required large teams can now be handled by just one "very talented" individual.

According to the memo, each pod consists of a small group of AI builders focused on specific outcomes, often collaborating across departments. For example, engineers may also take on design-related responsibilities, depending on the task at hand. Business Insider previously reported that some Meta employees have even begun referring to themselves as AI Builders on LinkedIn.

These pods are managed by Pod Leads, who handle day-to-day operations. Org Leads oversee them and manage performance reviews and promotions. They are also assisted in these tasks by some "AI systems," details of which have not been disclosed. The memo also states that the total team size will remain unchanged under the new structure.

Recently, Meta also implemented layoffs, affecting hundreds of employees, including those from Reality Labs and other teams. However, a company spokesperson stated that this reorganization is not related to job cuts.
