16th Finance Commission: Cabinet approves creation of three posts, including one economic advisor and two joint secretaries

The Union Cabinet has made a significant decision about the establishment of the 16th Finance Commission. PM Modi presided over a meeting of the Union Cabinet that approved the formation of three new positions. The government will create the positions of one economic advisor and two joint secretaries for the 16th Finance Commission, according to the statement released following this significant meeting on Thursday. According to the government, these positions were established to support the Commission's work.

According to the administration, the Finance Commission is being established with the use of the authority granted by Article 280 of the Constitution. The notification was sent out by the Central Government around two and a half weeks ago. Regarding the approval of the cabinet meeting and the Finance Commission's formation, the government stated that a notification dated December 31, 2023 authorised the appointment of individuals to the 16th Finance Commission. It was now officially accepted during the cabinet meeting.

Why was there a need to create new posts? On this question, the Central Government said that the remaining posts required for the 16th Finance Commission have already been created using the powers given by the Constitution. The need for the posts of Economic Advisor and two Joint Secretaries arose considering the workload on the Commission. The officers appointed to the three posts will help the 16th Finance Commission in completing its tasks without any hindrance and smoothly.
