Instagram has introduced the feature to support 3:4 aspect ratio images on the image and video sharing site in a special update for enhanced user experience. With this feature, now the users will be able to post images to Instagram without cropping. The feature is in line with the default mode of the majority of smartphone cameras, which capture images with the 3:4 aspect ratio.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri made a new announcement via Threads that photos taken in 3:4 format will now appear exactly as they are taken on the platform. This new image ratio update will apply to both single-image posts and carousels, giving Instagram users and creators more freedom in showcasing their content. Mosseri further said, 'People who post photos in 3:4 will now appear exactly as you took them.'

Until now, Instagram mainly supported square (1:1) and slightly vertical or tall (5:4 or 4:5) aspect ratio images, while the default 3:4 images taken from smartphones had to be cropped. But with this change, Instagram users will now be able to upload original quality images, rather than stretching them to fit, providing an accurate and direct translation of the original image.

Aside from this aspect ratio adjustment, Instagram has now introduced a new feature called Blend that displays suggested reels inside messages. This is now an invite-only feed that displays the user a customized feed based on their Instagram usage. The feature is currently accessible from Instagram for iOS and Android devices.

Last month, Instagram launched a new Edits app that offers support for video editing on smartphones. The app was introduced to compete with CapCut, another video editing app from rival ByteDance. It also allows users to edit and upload content on other apps without a watermark.
