PM Modi to visit Tripura, Meghalaya today: Will be involved in the Golden Jubilee program of NEC; Will start projects worth Rs 6,800 crore

PM Modi to visit Tripura, Meghalaya today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be on Tripura and Meghalaya state tour today. He will participate in the Golden Jubilee program organized to mark the completion of 50 years of the North Eastern Council (NEC) held in Shillong. The states will then attend a meeting at the convention centre. During this, the PM will inaugurate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone of projects worth more than Rs 6,800 crore for the Northeast. These schemes cover many sectors including housing, roads, agriculture, telecom, IT, and tourism.
After the meeting in Meghalaya's capital Shillong, the PM will address a public function and inaugurate, inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for several projects worth over Rs 2,450 crore. From Meghalaya, the PM will travel to Tripura, where he will address a public meeting at Swami Vivekananda Maidan in Agartala and inaugurate projects worth over Rs 4,350 crore.
It will then start the 'Griha Pravesh' program for over two lakh beneficiaries under the 'Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana' or PMAY - urban and rural - schemes. During this, he will also interact with the beneficiaries of various welfare schemes. BJP sources said that he would also hold a meeting of the BJP core committee in Tripura.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah reached Meghalaya's capital Shillong on Saturday evening to attend the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the North Eastern Council. Officials said apart from Shah, NEC members including governors, chief ministers and MPs of northeastern states have reached Shillong.
Tripura and Meghalaya both have elections due in the next two months and this is being seen as a crucial election for the BJP. After the landslide victory in Gujarat, BJP is focusing its attention on these states. The governors and chief ministers of all 8 northeastern states are attending the NEC function, which the BJP is considering as an occasion.
