A PUC is just a simple certificate that indicates the amount of smoke that comes out of your vehicle. It is issued after the test of the exhaust of your vehicle. It proves that the pollution coming out of your vehicle is within the limits set by the government.

The certificate will contain the registration number of your vehicle and the amount of smoke that comes out of it. It will also contain the date on which the certificate was issued and the expiry date. A PUC certificate is valid for up to one year for most cars.

If your vehicle does not have a PUC certificate and you are caught driving without it, you could be fined heavily. If you are caught without a PUC certificate more than once, severe legal action could be taken against you. If you are involved in an accident and don't have a PUC, you may face difficulty receiving your insurance claim.

Now, you don't need to worry; you can check from your home, using your mobile or computer, whether your vehicle's PUC is valid or has expired. The Government of India's Parivahan PUCC website is the easiest and most reliable way.

You can also check your vehicle's PUC status through the government's mParivahan app. First, install the mParivahan app on your phone and log in. Enter your vehicle number and go to the 'Vehicle' option within the app. You'll see the PUCC option there; click on it. Here, you'll find out how long your certificate is valid.
