Sanju Samson Traded to Chennai Super Kings from Rajasthan Royals Ahead of IPL
The Rajasthan Royals, who won the IPL title in 2008, made several changes to their team before the new season, including releasing Sanju Samson.
Sanju Samson, who assisted in clinching the last three matches of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, will don a new jersey this time. Sanju Samson was traded by the Rajasthan Royals to the Chennai Super Kings in exchange for Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran before the IPL auction. Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran will be all-rounders. Ravindra Jadeja will be a spin all-rounder, and Sam Curran will be a pace all-rounder. Together, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran cannot replace Sanju Samson for the Rajasthan Royals.
When India lost to South Africa in the first Super 8 match of the T20 World Cup 2026, India's future looked gloomy. However, the team management changed its plans and included a player, whom the coach and captain had intended to keep on the bench for the entire season, in the playing eleven. The moment Samson entered the playing eleven, Team India's fortunes changed. The team that had barely reached 200 began surpassing 250. Team India surpassed the 250-run mark in three of the last four matches.
Samson participated in only five matches in the T20 World Cup and became Team India's highest scorer. He scored 321 runs at an average of 80.25 and a strike rate of 199.35. Now, releasing such a batsman and captain could prove costly for Rajasthan Royals. Samson is a batsman who not only scores runs quickly but also does not lose his wicket easily. He also possesses the ability to stay put when needed. Whenever Samson scores runs in the new season, Rajasthan Royals and their fans will surely regret it.

Giving up Sanju's form could prove costly for Rajasthan Royals. Sanju made his IPL debut in 2013 and first wore the Rajasthan Royals jersey. After three seasons, the Rajasthan Royals were suspended for two years, leading to Sanju joining the Delhi Capitals in 2016.
Rajasthan Royals returned to the IPL in 2018, and Sanju Samson also returned to his former team. Samson, who has scored 4604 runs in 177 matches, including 26 half-centuries and 3 centuries, could prove to be a trump card for Chennai Super Kings. With his batting style, the pitch at Chennai's MA Chidambaram Stadium could suit him well.
