Now the trend of celebrating festivals by drinking alcohol is increasing rapidly in Rajasthan. Along with the New Year, people have now started drinking a lot of alcohol on Holi. Liquor worth more than Rs 100 crore was sold in the state on the occasion of Holi-Dhulandi. This stock of liquor was lifted from the godowns three days before Dhulandi (4, 5, 6 March). Because the supply from the warehouses (depots) was closed on March 7, the day of Dhulandi.
If you look at a report received from the Excise Department, on March 4, 5 and 6, the retail shop operators lifted liquor worth Rs 113.25 crore from the godowns. Of this, 46 percent (worth Rs 52.50 crore) was a stock of beer only. With the onset of summer, the demand for beer has increased, due to which the consumption of beer on Holi has doubled as compared to New Year's. On the other hand, the sale of English liquor was Rs 58.34 crore on Holi.
Last year, on December 31, 2022 (New Year Celebration), the New Year celebration was held in the state, then for two days (on December 30 and 31) stock worth Rs 111 crore was lifted from the godowns in the state. Then the share of beer in it was only 18 percent (worth Rs 20 crores), while the share of English liquor was more than 70 percent.
