Indian equity benchmark enters M-Cap Club, BSE's M-cap reaches $4 trillion

The largest stock exchange in the country is the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). On Wednesday, the combined market capitalization of BSE-listed companies has crossed $ 4 trillion (about Rs 100,000 crore). This morning BSE opened on the green mark. Today BSE Sensex rose 305.44 points to reach 66,479.64 points.

At the time of writing the news, BSE Sensex was trading at 66,633.54 points, up 459.34 points or 0.69 percent.

FIIs becoming net buyers of the stock market in the last few sessions have also brought some enthusiasm to the market, though the monthly F&O expiry and the F&O market in five states later this week, Prashant Tapase, senior VP (research), Mehta Equities Ltd, told PTI. Caution may be exercised in the next few sessions before the exit poll results of the elections.

So far this year, BSE has risen 5,540.52 points or 9.10 percent. On May 24, 2021, the market capitalization of all listed companies on BSE touched the US$ 3 trillion mark. The exchange saw the valuation of listed companies cross the US$1 trillion mark on 28 May 2007.

The journey from US$1 trillion to US$1.5 trillion as of June 6, 2014, was covered in 2,566 days or just seven years. On July 10, 2017, the M-cap of BSE-listed companies reached US$2 trillion. And on December 16, 2020, the figure of US $ 2.5 trillion was crossed.

The market capitalization (M-cap) of all listed companies on its platform has increased by approximately Rs 50.81 lakh crore. BSE reached its all-time peak of 67,927.23 on September 15 this year.

Exchanges with an M-cap of more than US$4 trillion include markets in the US, China, Japan, and Hong Kong along with BSE.

At the time of writing the news, stocks of HDFC Bank, BHEL, ICICI Bank, Reliance, Power Finance, and Tech Mahindra are trading with gains.
