Railway News: Railways have decided to install CCTV cameras in the coaches of mail and express trains to promote women's safety. Cameras are being installed in more than 11 thousand coaches in this financial year. SOS (panic) buttons will also be installed in the new coaches, which will inform the security team in case of emergency. Special attention is being given to women's coaches and sensitive stations.

Security of women during their travel has been given special attention by the Railways. CCTV cameras will be installed on all coaches of mail and express trains for women's safety during their travels. More than 11 thousand coaches have cameras installed in the current financial year.
Besides, now that whatever coach will be under construction, there will also be a proposal to fix SOS (panic) buttons on all of them, which will be capable of informing the driver and security team simultaneously, if any emergency situation develops. Railways have taken initiatives at many levels, keeping in view the supreme importance of the safety of women passengers. Attempts are also on to identify suspicious movement with an AI-based watchful eye mechanism.
All CCTV cameras installed in coaches are of HD quality, in which recordings of at least one month can be kept safe. The highest priority is being given to installing CCTVs in women's coaches, sleeper coaches, and general coaches. Arrangements are being made so that all the cameras will be directly connected to the RPF control room, so that monitoring and action can be expedited.
Railways is preparing to install CCTV cameras in the coaches of all express trains during the next two years. In view of the challenges of women's safety during travel, it has been made mandatory to install panic buttons in all the coaches being built, which will also be connected to the mobile app, so that in case of emergency, the passenger can send an alert from the mobile as well. Face recognition technology, CCTV surveillance, and crowd control teams are being arranged at all the smart stations being built in the country.
Women's staff deployment will also be made mandatory even in waiting rooms. Special care is also being taken with sensitive stations. More than seven hundred stations are part of the list of 'sensitive or super-sensitive' of the railways, at which a larger number of women RPF are now being deployed.
Dilip Kumar, Executive Director (Information) of the railways, said that an integrated strategy has been made to control crime during train travel. In a recent review, it was found that intelligence has increased through 'Rail Madad'. Also, initiatives like 'Meri Saheli' have increased the confidence of women while traveling.
It is being made very comprehensive. Each team has at least two members. Their job is to monitor the train journey from start to end. One team is deployed on every long-distance train. The number is also increased if needed. So far, it is active at two hundred stations.
