Islamabad: Daughter of Pakistan's former human rights minister Shireen Mazari arrested, police confirmed

Iman Mazari, daughter of Pakistan's former Human Rights Minister Shireen Mazari, was arrested from her house on Sunday. Islamabad Police has confirmed this. The arrest comes hours after Iman Zainab Mazari Hazir posted it on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter).

Islamabad Police informed about the developments on 'X' (formerly Twitter) and said, "Islamabad Capital Police has arrested Ali Wazir and Iman Mazari. Both the accused were wanted by Islamabad Police for investigation. All action as per law." Will be done accordingly. The news issued by the Public Relations Department of the Islamabad Capital Police should be accepted as correct. No one has the right to give a statement from the police station.

However, the police have not disclosed for which case the arrest has been made for questioning. An employee of the Tarnol police station said that a case has been registered against the young lawyer and activist for interfering in state affairs, protesting, and resisting.

Strongly condemning the incident, former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and federal minister Shireen Mazari termed it an act of "kidnapping" and "state fascism". He alleged that the personnel entered his house by breaking open the front door. He said that during the overnight crackdown, the personnel not only arrested his daughter but also seized security cameras, Eman's laptop, and phone.

The former PTI leader further revealed that they asked him about his intention, but he dragged Iman and started searching every nook and corner of his house. He said that when the officers took Iman, she was in her night dress. He also ignored his daughter's request for some time to change her nightwear.

The former federal minister said the workers did not come with any arrest warrants and that there were only two women in the house at the time. "Just now female policemen and men in plain clothes broke down our front door and took my daughter away. They took away our security cameras and her laptop and cell phone," Mazari said in a post on X (formerly Twitter).

He said, "We asked what they had come for and they dragged Imaan out. They marched all over the house. My daughter was in her night dress and she said let me change, but they dragged her away." Of course no warrant or any legal process, but state fascism. Remember we are the only 2 women in the house. This is a kidnapping."

In May, prominent PTI leader and former federal minister Shireen Mazari quit PTI and politics in the wake of the May 9 violence. Mazari has been arrested several times since the events of 9 May. After the court ordered his release, he was taken away in a vehicle without a number plate. On May 9, the police produced Mazari in the court for inciting party supporters in Kharian.
