Yamaha Tricity 300 Becomes One of the First Scooters with Airbag Technology
Yamaha Tricity 300: Scooter riding is about to get even safer. Yamaha and Autoliv have jointly developed an airbag system for the Tricity 300. This system will help save the driver's life in a frontal collision.
Yamaha has designed a new safety feature for those using scooters. Autoliv, a safety company, collaborated with Yamaha to design a special airbag system. This airbag is designed for Yamaha’s Tricity 300. Previously, they tried to design such a system with Piaggio, but this hasn’t been available to the public yet.
Yamaha’s Tricity 300 airbag only deploys if there is a front impact. This airbag is placed inside the front panel of the scooter. When there is an impact, this airbag pops up quickly in front of the driver, similar to a balloon. Yamaha claims that this airbag is designed in such a way that there is no impact on how the scooter is driven.
Simulation and advanced testing were done to develop this airbag, and actual crash tests were also conducted to ensure its complete safety. Autoliv CEO Mikael Bratt says that this is a big step for them. Motorcycle riders generally have fewer safety equipment than those in cars, but this technology will help save their lives.

Typically, airbags for bike riders are fitted in their jackets or vests. Very few vehicles have airbags fitted inside the vehicle, such as Honda's Gold Wing. This airbag system for the Yamaha Tricity 300 has started appearing on their website. Although its price has not been disclosed yet, it is a big step towards bringing airbags to common scooters.
