Indian PM starts his first bilateral visit to Brunei
PM Modi is on a visit to Brunei and Singapore from today as his bilateral visit. Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal says, PM Modi will visit Brunei on September 3 and 4. This will be the first bilateral visit of an Indian Prime Minister to Brunei. The visit takes place to celebrate the occasion of the completion of 40 years of the diplomatic relations between India and Brunei. Modi will travel to Singapore after his visit in Brunei. The PM of Singapore has invited Indian PM for the same.
PM Modi syas I am looking forward to the opportunity to meet President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Prime Minister Lawrence Wong, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong and retired Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong. He will also meet the leaders of the business community of Singapore. He said that I look forward to discussions to further deepen our strategic partnership with Singapore, especially in new and emerging areas of advanced manufacturing, digitalization and sustainable development. Singapore is India's largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations ASEAN. It is also a major source of foreign direct investment.
Important partners in the 'Act East' policy, vision for the Indo-Pacific
Prime Minister Modi described Brunei and Singapore as important partners in India's 'Act East' policy and its vision for the Indo-Pacific. He says that his visit will further strengthen Indian partnership with the two countries as well as the larger ASEAN region. Prime Minister Modi said this in a statement on Tuesday before leaving for a visit to Brunei and Singapore.
