Marylebone Cricket Club Clarifies Salman Agha Run-Out Controversy in BAN vs PAK ODI

The third ODI match between Bangladesh and Pakistan has created quite a stir as Salman Agha was run out. Now the Marylebone Cricket Club has given its verdict. The MCC, the governing body for cricket rules and regulations, has declared Salman Agha’s runout as legal under the rules. However, the MCC also stated that the fielding team could have chosen to withdraw its appeal in keeping with the "spirit of cricket."

The Bangladesh captain, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, attempted to field Mohammad Rizwan’s ball. As Miraz stepped onto the pitch to catch the ball, he bumped into Salman Agha, who had moved back to the non-striker’s end. Salman then bent down and picked the ball to return it to the bowler. But Miraz picked the ball first and threw it at the stumps. Salman was out of his crease at that time and hence was out.

After the match, Agha cited the "spirit of cricket" and said that if he had been a fielder, he would have behaved differently. This incident sparked considerable debate, in response to which the MCC issued a statement justifying the on-field decision. The MCC said, "According to the rules, the umpire could not have done anything else. The non-striker was clearly out of his crease when the wicket fell, and the ball was in play, so it was out."

The MCC also explained that Agha had put himself at further risk by attempting to touch the ball. The statement stated that no batsman should attempt to touch the ball without the fielding team's permission, as doing so risks being dismissed under the "obstructing the field" rule.

Bangladesh won the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh and Pakistan 2-1. Pakistan was bowled out for 114 in the first match and 279 in the third. Pakistan was bowled out for 114 in the second match, allowing Pakistan to win one match.
