Delhi High Court statement: WhatsApp compels users for the privacy policy

The Delhi High Court said that WhatsApp's privacy policy of 2021 has left its users in a 'take it and leave it' situation. WhatsApp first forces users into agreements by giving them the illusion of different choices. Then shares their data with their parent company Facebook (Meta).
In fact, the Competition Commission of India (CCI) had ordered an inquiry against the privacy policy of WhatsApp and Facebook. After this, WhatsApp and Facebook appealed to the Delhi High Court to set aside the orders of the CCI. But, the Delhi High Court rejected this appeal.
A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramaniam Prasad gave this verdict on Thursday. However, the court order was uploaded on the website on Friday.
WhatsApp had given continuous notifications to the users about the new policy for several months and also threatened to discontinue many features. After which people had to accept the privacy policy under compulsion. The High Court said that the instant messaging platform WhatsApp holds a dominant position in the market for OTT (over-the-top) messaging apps via smartphones in India.
The High Court also said that India is a major market for WhatsApp and the company has a stronghold here. In such a situation, users cannot go to other platforms. The company has taken advantage of this. Let us tell you that Signal and Telegram benefited a lot after the introduction of WhatsApp's privacy policy last year.
Many users had also created their accounts on Telegram. But, the dependence of people on WhatsApp has become so much that it has become a very difficult task for them to shift to other apps.
