BHU starts Annie Besant Fellowship; students will get a lot benefits under this scheme

Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has come up with a great scheme to increase the interest of youth in the research field. This will not only encourage young students to come to the research field, but they will also get financial support.

In fact, Banaras Hindu University (BHU) has invited its meritorious students to join BHU's Ph.D. programs just after completing their postgraduate degrees. For this, the university has started a new scheme called Annie Besant Fellowship as an incentive for the students.

This scheme has been launched under the Institution of Eminence - BHU program. The final year students of postgraduate programs in the university will be eligible to apply for this fellowship. However, they should be in the top five percentile with a minimum 8.5 CGPA. The last date to apply for Annie Besant Fellowship for BHU Ph.D. Program students has been fixed as August 5, 2022.

The Banaras Hindu University (BHU) in the official notification informed that those joining the fellowship will be expected to complete their Ph.D. thesis within four years of joining the programme. Selected candidates will be provided JRF with CSIR/UGC during their Ph.D. programme.

As per fellowship criteria, University will provide Rs 5000/- per month as a cash incentive if the student qualifies for JRF/NET qualification of UGC or CSIR or INSPIRE fellowship, etc. within one year. It is expected by the university that the student will qualify for JRF within the year.

At the same time, if the student has not qualified JRF/NET qualification of UGC or CSIR or INSPIRE fellowship etc., the university will award a fellowship at the rate prevailing for JRF in the first year. Whereas, if by the second year also the student is not able to qualify for JRF/NET qualification of UGC or CSIR or for INSPIRE fellowship etc., then from the second year the university will reduce the fellowship by 50% of the JRF rate. Also if a student obtains Prime Minister Research Fellowship i.e. PMRF at any stage, the university will not provide a top-up fellowship.
