112 medical colleges to be built in the country

The Union Health Ministry has taken a big decision to increase the health infrastructure. The ministry has prepared a plan to set up medical colleges in 112 districts of the country within four years. These colleges will be built in those districts where the population is more than 10 lakh and there is no government or private medical college at present.
The government estimates that a total of Rs 36,000 crore will be spent on building 112 colleges. Very soon this scheme can be approved by the Finance Ministry. The Health Ministry has identified 112 districts across the country, which do not yet have a medical college and have a population of more than one million. Madhya Pradesh has a maximum of 21 such districts.
Out of a total of 36 thousand crore rupees to be spent on new medical colleges, the center will give 22 thousand crore rupees. 14 thousand crore rupees will have to be spent by the states. The center will give 60% of the amount. However, in the northeastern states and special status states, the Center will spend 90% of the amount. On average Rs, 325 crores will be spent on the construction of each medical college.
