Heavy rain alert in 16 districts of Rajasthan, so far 133% more rain than usual

Rajasthan Monsoon Update: Many districts of Rajasthan received torrential rains on Monday. Baran received the highest rainfall of 190 mm. Today, the Meteorological Department has issued an alert of heavy to very heavy rains in 16 districts.

Over the past three days, the state has received more than 70 mm of rain on average, compared to the normal of 50 mm. A warning of heavy rain has been issued for the rest of June. Since June 1, the state has received 133 percent more rain than usual, with Bhilwara experiencing the highest, recording 430 mm since June 1. On Monday, many parts of the state experienced torrential rains. Today, on Tuesday, 16 districts are warned of heavy to very heavy rains.

Currently, the monsoon is most active in eastern Rajasthan. The Jaipur Meteorological Center has issued an orange alert for very heavy rains in five cities today: Baran, Bundi, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur, and Tonk. Heavy rain warnings also cover Nagaur, Churu, Sikar, Kota, Jhunjhunu, Jhalawar, Dholpur, Dausa, Chittorgarh, Bhilwara, and Bharatpur.

Due to heavy rains, water continues to flow into the dams in the state. On Monday, more than 80 MCM water inflow was recorded in the dams. According to the Water Resources Department, 17 dams with a capacity of over 4.25 MCM, as well as smaller dams, are fully filled. Meanwhile, 323 dams are partially filled, and 352 dams remain completely empty.

At present, rainfall in western Rajasthan is below average. From June 1 to 23, Bikaner division received an average of 256 mm of rain, with Bikaner and Ganganagar recording below-normal levels. In Jodhpur division, as well as Barmer, Jaisalmer, and Phalodi, rainfall was also less than normal.
