Vishnu Vinod Falls Short of Shaw’s Record but Creates History With Six-Hitting Spree

The 2025-26 season of the Vijay Hazare Trophy saw a historical display by a batsman when Kerala’s Vishnu Vinod struck 14 sixes in a run chase. In the second innings of the Kerala and Puducherry match played at Ahmedabad, Vishnu Vinod of Kerala struck a scintillating 162 in 84 balls. Vinod struck 14 sixes in this innings, which created a historical record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vinod broke the previous record in the Vijay Hazare Trophy by striking the maximum number of sixes in a run chase.
This has created a record for sixes scored while chasing a target in a single match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Vishnu Vinod has smashed all previous records set under this category and has entered into the history of this tournament. During his 162-run innings, Vinod hit 13 fours and 14 sixes. However, Vinod missed another record. Prithvi Shaw holds the record for the highest score in a run chase in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The Mumbai batsman scored an unbeaten 185 off 123 balls while chasing a target of 285 against Saurashtra in March 2021. Vinod fell just 23 runs short of breaking this record.
The match was played at the Narendra Modi Stadium A Ground in Ahmedabad, where Kerala had to chase the target against Puducherry. Puducherry, batting first, scored 247 runs. In response, Kerala lost wickets early, losing both openers for just 30 runs. Sanju Samson was dismissed cheaply, scoring just 11 runs. Baba Aparajith and Vishnu Vinod then took control of the innings, adopting an aggressive approach and achieving the target in just 29 overs. Aparajith scored an unbeaten 63, while Vishnu Vinod scored at a strike rate of 192.86.
