Bengaluru, Karnataka: Journalist and media founder Satish Raj Goravigere has begun laying the groundwork for a multi-city news bureau network aimed at improving civic and rural coverage across Karnataka.

Initial plans indicate that bureaus will be established in key locations including Mysuru, Mangaluru, Belagavi, Tumakuru, and Bengaluru, focusing on hyperlocal reporting, public-interest journalism, and editorial coordination at the district level. The plan aims to strengthen regional reporting by building newsroom coordination hubs.

As part of this expansion, district-wise editorial setups are being initiated, with the hiring of local reporters and bureau-level staff already underway in select regions. The effort is aimed at creating decentralised newsrooms that can closely follow civic developments and cultural stories unique to each area.

Satish Raj Goravigere is the founder of Kannada News Today, the digital media platform which was founded in March 2019, built it with a focus on people-first stories, rural reporting, and public-interest narratives. Over the years, the platform has steadily grown into a regional voice across Karnataka, known for its civic and cultural journalism rooted in local communities.

More recently, Satish Raj has taken on editorial leadership at the Kannada-language daily Sakshi Prabha, a regional newspaper based in Belagavi. From his base in Bengaluru, he now oversees its editorial direction, contributing to efforts to broaden the paper’s regional presence while maintaining its strong reader base in northern Karnataka.

Kannada News Today was recently honoured with the Best Regional News Source (Regional award) by a Karnataka-based cultural organisation. The recognition was formally presented during a public ceremony celebrating contributions to ground-level journalism. In addition, the platform launched the Sadhana Hyperlocal Award to acknowledge the work of rural journalists and field contributors across various districts.

In the English-language media space, Satish Raj also founded Timesnib in 2025, an online news portal designed to bridge regional developments with broader national discourse. Furthermore, plans are underway to obtain licensing for a regional satellite television channel, expected to focus on civic reporting and cultural content.

Throughout his media career, Satish Raj Goravigere has been recognised with the Rajyotsava Journalism Honour (2023) and the Outstanding Media Contribution of the Year Award (2024). His consistent focus remains on expanding access to meaningful journalism across linguistic and geographic boundaries.

In support of media literacy and public awareness, Kannada News Today recently conducted sessions in colleges across Tumakuru district, addressing the challenges of misleading information, fake news, and the impact of social media on public perception. These outreach efforts are part of a broader engagement to promote responsible journalism and critical thinking among young audiences.
