Former CJI Chandrachud did not vacate bungalow after retiring, now SC wrote a letter to the center
Supreme Court: The Supreme Court has written a letter to the Central Government demanding immediate vacancy when former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud stayed for more than the time in the government bungalow. Chandrachud has described it as family compulsion. He said that due to the special needs of his daughters, there was a delay in getting a new house. The Supreme Court says that no more time cannot be given.
The long-term stay of former Chief Justice DY Chandrachud in the government bungalow has become a point of controversy now. The Supreme Court administration has sent a letter to the Central Government, requesting that the bungalow at 5, Krishna Menon Marg be vacated forthwith. The bungalow is the official residence of the Chief Justice of the nation. Chandrachud retired in November 2024, but continues to reside there.
The Supreme Court has written a letter to the Union Housing and Urban Affairs Ministry on July 1, saying that former Chief Justice of the country Chandrachud is staying in the bungalow for more than the time. According to the rule, after retirement, the former Chief Justice can stay in a type-seven bungalow for six months. But Chandrachud has been living in a type-eight bungalow for eight months, which is a violation of the rules.
On this issue, Chandrachud said that this delay was due to his family reasons. He said that his two daughters need special care and it was not easy for him to find a suitable house. The government has given them a second house on rent, which is being repaired. He will shift as soon as the repair is completed.
