On the eve of Republic Day, the government announced the names of the Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri recipients. The Ministry of Home Affairs has declared the winners of the Padma Awards. There are a total of five Padma Vibhushans, 13 Padma Bhushans, and 113 Padma Shris in the list this year. There are also women winners, totaling 19, and winners from the foreign, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories, totaling six, and also the posthumous category, totaling 16 winners this year. Also, three cricket players are included in the winners' list this year.

Padma Awards are one of the highest honors in India, conferred in three categories of honors – Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri – in various fields of activities such as art, social service, public affairs, science, engineering, trade, industry, medicine, literature, education, sports, civil service, etc.

The 'Padma Vibhushan' is given for exceptional and distinguished service. The 'Padma Bhushan' is given for distinguished service of a high order, and the 'Padma Shri' is given for distinguished service in any field. These awards are announced annually on Republic Day. The awards are presented by the President of India at formal ceremonies, usually held at Rashtrapati Bhavan around March or April each year.
