Bhutan's King Jigme Wangchuk is visiting India, just days after agreeing to resolve his border dispute with China as soon as possible. Wanguchak will reach Assam state on Friday (03 November) in the first leg of this eight-day tour. His stay in Assam is for three days.

Apart from Assam, he will also be on a visit to New Delhi and Maharashtra. During his visit to New Delhi, PM Narendra Modi will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and other senior officials. It has been told by the Ministry of External Affairs that the King of Bhutan will visit India from 03 to 10 November during which he will discuss bilateral and other regional issues with Indian officials. The Ministry of External Affairs will discuss how India-Bhutan relations will be further strengthened.

Experts are considering this journey as very important. Vajay is saying that on October 23, 2023, an important meeting was held between the Foreign Ministers of China and Bhutan in which it was agreed to resolve the current border talks as soon as possible. This agreement is also expected to have a long-term impact on India's interests. It is believed that the issue of a border agreement between China and Bhutan will be very important in the talks with government representatives in India.

China has also said that it is in favor of establishing full-time diplomatic relations with Bhutan. Till now, Bhutan has generally been linking its interests with the interests of India in international forums. But in recent years it is being seen that China is trying its best to attract Bhutan. Doklam area is also among the areas on which there is to be an agreement between Bhutan and China. This part is in the north direction from the geographical area (Chicken Neck between Sikkim and Assam) connecting the north-eastern states of India with the rest of the country.

From here it will be easy to monitor the road route connecting India and the North-Eastern states. This is the reason why India strongly opposes any kind of activity by China in this entire region. In the year 2017, military tension between China and India had increased significantly due to the construction of a new road route by China in Doklam, which could be normalized only after the talks between PM Narendra Modi and President Xi Jinping.

However, Bhutan has made it clear that the issue of Doklam is not only of China and Bhutan but India is also related to it and any agreement will be reached only after consensus is reached between the three countries. Despite this, India has been continuously keeping Bhutan informed about its position.
